RPM
Requirements
NOTE - If you have a license USB key from a previous installation and are trying to use this guide to install XPression to a new machine, please skip this section. The license key will still work as normal without an RPM install.
The requirements are fully laid out in the respective RPM user guides, however for our self serve workflow, a Windows PC, virtual or otherwise, is highly recommended. This will allow the use of our one-touch install script, which will install RPM and it's dependencies for you, with helpful prompts. The hardware specs are as follows:
- CPU — quad-core Intel® Core™ i7, 2GHz
- RAM — 8GB to 16GB (16GB recommended)
- Hard Drive — Minimum 64 GB free
- LAN — 100 Mb/s
The link to the installer can be found on our Community Page.
Installation
The install guide for RPM is also found on the Community Page, but a direct link is available here, if needed. Please refer to the Automatic Installation for RPM Computer section of the guide. It will step through the one-touch installer prompts.
Setup
Once RPM is installed, the user guide will be the next point of reference. For our purposes, the following sections are of most importance:
- Getting Started
- Activating a Product Key for Ross Platform Manager Software
- Activating and Deactivating Product Keys
Once RPM is installed, you can navigate to the login page by going to a compatible browser, and typing in either localhost (if you are on the RPM machine itself) or the IP of the RPM PC (if you are on another PC). You will see the login page appear:
RPM has a user of root and a password of password by default. This can be changed by the installer if desired.
If you did not enter your RPM Express license during the install process, please do so now using the steps outlined in the Activating a Product Key for Ross Platform Manager Software section of the User Guide.
Finally, using the Activating and Deactivating Product Keys section of the guide, please ensure you add your XPression license to RPM as well. There is a short video that outlines both the RPM and XPression side of this for your convenience.
XPression
Installation
With the provided installation file, XPression can be installed. The following video details the process from start to finish.
Software License Configuration
The full process for adding the XPression License to the License Tool, as well as configuring the License Tool to connect to RPM are outlined in the XPression License Tool and Software Maintenance found on our website.
We also have a short video that goes over the process.
General Setup
With XPression now licensed, general setup can begin. Depending on the hardware you have purchased, this will vary. If you have Ross-Provided hardware, the cabling guides found on our general documentation page will help you set your system hardware up.
For the configuration of the actual software, the User Guide is invaluable, as it goes over every possible configuration step. For ease of use, the following set of videos are available to cover the basics:
- Setting up Preferences on First Launch
- Setting up Hardware Setup for a Matrox Card
- Setting a New Project Up
There are further videos that detail optional parts of the setup
For further training on using XPression, the Basics page of XPression University is an excellent place to start.
