This article is to outline different ways to set up Tally on Ultrix so it appears properly on the Ultriscape multiviewers no matter the workflow.
Step 1: Configure the Tally Device to send Data
Carbonite configuration
- On the hard panel or virtual panel in DashBoard, go to menu – system – next – next – device config.
- Add a new device.
- Slot X (any number).
- Type – serial tally – next.
- Subtype – tslumd_0.1 next.
- IP address – IP of the Ultrix – next.
- Port 5727.
- Click left knob to confirm changes.
Acuity Configuration
- On the touch screen, navigate to setup – installation – com setup.
- Add the device.
- Type – Serial Tally.
- Select Device – TSLOut.
- Com type – network TCP.
- Com Settings – Primary, Client, IP of the Ultrix, port 5729.
- Extra options – Enable header, Screen ID 0.
- Press Home – Confirm.
Ultrix supports TSL versions 3,4 and 5. However, they need to come in on the right port.
Once the Ultrix sees data coming in on the proper port, you should see an entry in incoming connections.
Step 2: Enable Tally on the Ultrix
- In DashBoard, open Ultrix – Ultrix “IP address” – System Status.
- Select the Database tab.
- Select the Enable Tally checkbox.
Step 3: Configure the Ultrix to Tally properly according to the proper workflow.
Source Tally (Ultrix Acuity)
Sources feed the tally device (switcher) and the Ultrix separately.
Destination Configuration
- In basic tree view, open Ultrix – Ultrix “IP address” – Database – Destinations.

Find your PIPs in the destination,
- Will look like: Ultrix.slot2.head1-pip[1].sdi.ch1
- Enable Tally Redirect.
- Apply changes.
Source Configuration
- In basic tree view, open Ultrix – Ultrix “IP address” – Database – Sources.

Associate the proper tally ID with the source in the Ultrix.
- Note: Refer to source tally documentation for tally IDs.
- Apply changes.
Routed tally (Ultrix Carbonite)
Sources are feeding the Ultrix which is then feeding the Tally device. (Inputs change based on what is routed.)
Destination Configuration
- In basic tree view, open Ultrix – Ultrix “IP address” – Database – Destinations.

Find your Switcher destination in the database.
- Will look like: Ultrix.slot2.out[1].sdi.ch1
- Select routed tally as the tally mode
- Enter Tally IDs between to match the tally documentation. (ID 1 for SWR input 1, ID 2 for SWR input 2 etc.)
- Enter tally IDs on the MV PIPs that dont interfere with the rest. ex 1000,1001,1002 etc and set to normal tally mode.
- Apply changes.
Connection configuration
- In basic tree view, open Ultrix – Ultrix “IP address” – Database – Connections.
- Under Servers go Edit – add.
- Protocol – TSL X with X being the version you want to send.
- Type – TCP.
- Count – 1.
- Set the name, device ID. Enable.
- Press the … to edit the IP address to point to the Switcher on port 5727.
- Configure your tally device to receive the appropriate labels on the inputs.
Step 4: Adding Tally to the Layout
- In Basic tree view, open Ultrix – Ultriscape – layout Editor.
- Open desired layout.
- File – Load from Ultricore – Layout”x”.
- Add desired Tally.
- Lights – Click Tally on left side of screen; then select desired PIP (Fig. 1).
- UMD – Select UMD in PIP; check Tally at top of screen (Fig. 2).
- Border – Select desired PIP; set border type at top of screen to Tally.
