Version 5.x.x
Capturing System Status Salvo
Before performing any maintenance on your Ultrix, it is recommended to perform a "capture system status" salvo. This way, you have a snapshot of the crosspoint Matrix as it was before performing maintenance.
1) Navigate to Ultrix -> Ultrix -> Databases -> Salvos
2) To capture the System Status, follow the instructions below.
Database
Whether you’re performing a system upgrade, making some changes to the database, or just covering your cases. Creating a backup of the database or databases is a good way to ensure that, should anything go wrong, you have a way of restoring the database. The process for this varies depending on whether you are running version 6 or a prior version. This guide will explain the process for both versions.
1) Navigate to the system status page. It will be under Ultrix -> Ultrix -> System Status.
2) Select Transfer from the top menu.
3) Choose the database that you wish to backup and press “browse.” A box will pop up giving the option to choose a destination folder and file name.
4) Once you’ve completed this step, click “save” and then press the “apply” button to commence the save.
*Perform these steps for each database that you wish to backup*
Layouts
Depending on how your multiviewer is set up, you might have Ultriscape layouts, or you might not. If not, you can continue to the frame settings backup steps. If you do have Ultriscape layouts and wish to back them up, please follow the steps below.
1) Staying on the same menu as before, you are going to switch to the Ultriscape Layouts tab.
2) Follow the same procedure as the database. Choose the layout you wish to save, click browse, and then apply.
Frame Settings
Lastly, we arrive at the frame settings. It is important to back these up as they contain settings for Ultriscape assignments, IP assignments (2110), port assignments, and so on.
1) Once again, staying in the same system status page. You will want to navigate to the Ultrix Frame Settings page.
2) Click “browse” and then choose the destination path, and click “Apply” to save the Ultrix Frame Settings file.
Note: There won’t be anything necessarily to select as the frame settings are applied to the frame as a whole unit, rather than specific components.
Additional Steps
Having backed up the database(s), layouts, and frame settings, the most important files are now backed up. With these files, you have a way of rebuilding should anything go awry. With that said, there are a couple of extra steps that are nice to perform and offer some extra helpful pieces.
These pieces don’t necessarily have a built-in backup option, but grabbing a screenshot of the page will do the trick in a pinch. These important screenshots include:
- Network Configuration
- Aux Assignments
- Licenses page
- Ultriscape Layout assignments
Version 6.x.x
With the changes made in version 6, the process for creating backups is a little different than what we were used to in version 5. This guide will show the process for backing up the necessary files and settings as they pertain to version 6.
Capture System Status Salvo
1) Navigate to Ultrix -> Ultrix -> Database -> Configuration -> Salvos
2) Select the plus icon in the top left corner. Or you can use the drop-down beside the icons.
3) After naming your Salvo, click on the camera icon above the matrix. Select “Capture System Status.”
Databases
1) Navigate to the Database Manager under Ultrix -> Ultrix -> Database Manager.
2) Select the database(s) that you wish to back up. Then click on the 3 layered icon in the top left corner of the page. Then select the export button.
3) The export menu will appear, allowing you to name the database and make a selection. After confirming the name and checking “all platforms,” you can hit apply to open the pathing.
4) After choosing the destination, press save, and your database is now backed up!
*Perform these steps for as many databases as you have*
Layouts
Depending on your setup, the layouts might be stored locally to the Ultrix frame, or they might be part of the BCS. We will start by backing up the layouts as if the frame is standalone.
1) Navigate to Ultrix -> Ultrix -> Product Info in the basic tree view.
2) Open the transfer tab and navigate to Ultriscape Layouts.
3) Select the layout, click on “browse,” and once a destination file is chosen, click on “apply” to save the layout.
Frame Settings
Thankfully, in version 6, exporting a backup of the frame settings is almost identical to version 5.
1) Staying in the Product Info page, navigate to the transfer tab and select Ultrix Frame Settings.
2) Click browse and choose a destination path, and then click on “Apply” to save a copy of the frame settings.
